I rememer abotu 15 eyars ago...I was really feelin sorry for myself. I guess I was throwing my first Alanon "pity party". After a fewminutes of compl;aining tomy sponsor I asked her what on earth I could do. She said to start a gratitude journal. I got a journal and made a list of all of the things in my life I was grateful for. And when I felt hopeless or wanting to be on the pitty potty to get out the journal and read it. I did. And it's amazing hwo well that worked. I'd usualy see that the part of my life that was giving me grief at the moment, was already on my list as somethign I was grateful for. SO Iknow it woudl be OK. I usually even added a few more things to the list each time I read it.
It's been 15 years. I dont have to use that journal any more. I know it in my heart.I can snap back to reality pretty quickly these days.
I also try to find the good in eery situation. I often ask , "GOD,...what lesson are you trying to teach me from this?" It's like a "growth opportunity". Sometiems we are not ready to grow but the opportunity is there and we need to recognize it.
Do any of you use a gratitude journal?

| I used to use a journal when I first started coming around.. When I was in the dumps of self pity I would read through the journal, it really helped alot.. Also I used a God box, everything I wanted to give to God I put in the box.. There are all kids of neat ways, and techniques that people use. I would like to hear some others. |

Yes, I have in fact used a gratitude journal. When times are tough or I feel I am losing my way I will list out blessings. Now that I think of it, must be similar to counting a mala or a rosary...I don't know. But it is a ritual, and I find rituals bring me in touch with you-know-who (one guess: NOT Lotus).
One of the things I am eternally grateful for is the ability to screw up and although some may judge, I no longer feel the urgency to hide the problem or isolate. What a break! Life begins now. |

Thanks for your reply. Lotus!
I like to search for the GOOD in a situation that is not so good. It makes it not seem so bad.
Yesterday I was hurrying to get back to work and I pulled in front of a car. We crashed. My beautiful hardtop convertible had a mashed front corner. The antifreeze went all over the place so It has some internal injuries too. But I also broke my foot when I slammed on the brakes so hard. It was all my fault. Hubby was drunk by the time I found him at 1 and he screamed at me all afternoon.
I tried my best to find something GOOD.
What I came up with is.....I dhave a boot cast so I won't have foot surgery, I wont need crutches, and I wont have a hard cast. I can take this off to sleep and shower.
A n alanon friend wrote me today...not all days are good, but there are good things abotu all days.
