Thought to Ponder . . .
The first drink has the last say.

This is part of the AA for Today reading. I have never heard this saying before. I have heard it said many other ways, but not these words.

How often in the past my drug of choice spoke for me. I have found in recovery that I can slip mentally, emotionally, and spiritually without picking up physically. When that happens, I start 'acting out' in old patterns and behaviors and I am a dry drunk. I don't like to admit it, that I can still go back there. It is a part of my humaness that I have trouble accepting. Being merely human seems to be an excuse. Allowing myself that humaness was difficult for me. Allowing myself to be vulnerable was a big fear that was hard to overcome.

Thanks for letting me share.

Love Always,

Each Day is a New Beginning, so have a great one.

Good words Jo. I agree, in recovery we can slip, I find myself slipping from spirtyality, and emotionally. We all know where that can lead us too. Usually for me relapse comes way before I even know I am in the dry drunk stage.. Although I dont usually turn back to old behaviors etc. It is usually when I am doing something out of the ordinary, or should I say not doing the things I usually do, I need meetings, constant contact with my higher power, talking to new comers, talking to sponsor. And when my day to day schedules are screwed up and I stop one or more of these, usually I start stopping the other things I need. This for me is me heading for a fall.. Thank God I have people in my life to help guide the way when I lose focus.. Its all about unity, and thats what its about.

Thank you for sharing. One of my sponsors favorite says is, "Get back to basics." For me, I hear myself saying the word "I" to many times. Another sign is my language, especially when I start cussing and everything always seems to be everyone elses fault. Then it is Whoa, look at yourself. What is being reflected that you need to look at.

Many people say, "Well I am only human!" For me, it is an excuse not to look at what needs to be changed. I am human and I can get wrapped in the blanket of denial. That is one of the reasons that I ask my Higher Power for the knowingness I need in today.

Love Always,

Each Day is a New Beginning, so have a great one.
