On August 1, 1998, I was drinking as usual. I'd been drinking alcoholicly for at least 10 years. I wanted some kind of help, but didn't know what to do. I got onto a website search engine, typed in some key words, and came across Another Empty Bottle. I logged onto the chat room and found myself typing that I wanted to do something about my drinking, like maybe control it. An AA member in the chat room suggested I call AA. I told him that I live in Denver, that I don't think they have AA here. He suggested I look it up in the phone book. I found the listing and called them. (I was scared to disconnect the dialup modem to make the phone call, I had found some kind of hope...) I called and found out there was a meeting in a few hours just 2 miles from me. I was so surprised. I got back onto the AEB chat room until it was time to leave for the meeting. I was tipsy when I drove to the meeting, the people were so nice, they asked me to come back the next day... when was the last time I was ever asked to come back. The next day, August 2 1998, I went to my 2nd meeting and that is still my sobriety date.

Many things have happened since, and I can remember most of it, unlike the 1990's which is a lost decade. I've done much service, gone thru the steps a few times, still go to meetings. In personal life, good and bad things have happened; I've been able to weather the bad things with what I have learned in AA. The good outweighs the bad, as well.

When I recently celebrated my 10th anniversary, I thought about this website and wanted to post. I'm glad that this is still a way to reach suffering alcoholics, in and out of the rooms of AA. I don't remember the name of the person in the chat room 10 years ago. I'm grateful for this website, AA, and that there was a person to help me go from the website into AA recovery.

Oh, by the way, Denver has over 1100 meetings each week and has great sobriety. And some of my service has been answering the phone when someone calls AA. This is such a cool deal.

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!! and welcome back!! I am grateful that you came here 10 years ago, but also, as Chrissy said you came back to let us all know that things are going good for you, and that you remember where you were. You have 10 years of history in AA, and still have a lifetime of the mystery we all get because tomorrow is always a mystery.

I love you all and there's nothing you can do about it.

Congrats on the 10 years. I just turned 21 this past March and this website--old version and new--is a big part of my sobriety. I, too, found this site one evening by surfing the web. I had just received my 1st computer. I am now on my 3rd. lol I lived in Denver back in the late 70s Lovely area, beautiful mountains.
